BELIEVE IT OR not, this man…
Is the same age as this man.
Simon Harris, our babyfaced Minister for Health, was born on October 17th 1986.
One week later, Aubrey ‘Drake’ Graham was born.
What a historic week!
Though they may only be separated by a week, their lives couldn’t be further apart.
The line, “Two roads diverge in a yellow wood…” springs to mind.
Let’s take a look back on how their lives have panned out, shall we?
In February 2009, Simon Harris joined Twitter and sent his maiden tweet.
A mere six weeks later, Drake joined Twitter and sent this gem.
Is Simon Harris more ahead of the curve than Drake? We’ll let you decide.
In June 2009, Young Fine Gael’s Simon Harris was elected to Wicklow County Council and Greystones Town Council.
That same month, Drake set his career in motion by signing a recording contract with another youthful organisation – Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment.
Not quite Young Fine Gael, we’re sure you’ll agree.
In June 2010, Drake released his debut album Thank Me Later and it debuted atop the Billboard Hot 200.
While Drake was enjoying the success of his first album, Simon Harris was enjoying going after Fianna Fáil’s Dick Roche.
Different strokes for different folks, okay?
In 2011, Drake enjoyed critical acclaim and commercial with his second album Take Care.
That same year, Simon Harris was elected to Dáil Éireann and became the youngest member of the Dáil.
There he is now.
Sure, Drake might have had two successful albums under his belt, but Simon Harris got to propose Enda Kenny as An Taoiseach.
In 2012, Drake got into a serious altercation with Chris Brown over Rihanna.
Meanwhile, Simon Harris scolded older TDs for acting like babies.
YOU TELL ‘EM, SI.
In 2013, Drake was showered with accolades including Best Rap Album at the Grammys for Take Care and Best Song of 2013 by Pitchfork for Hold On, We’re Going Home.
Furthermore, he released his third album Nothing Was The Same to much acclaim.
It was Drake’s world and we were all just living in it.
But it was a big year for Simon Harris, too!
Just a different kind of big.
In 2014, Simon Harris was appointed as Minister of State at the Department of Finance. A big job for a young man!
Drake had a relatively quiet year by comparison, but still managed to host Saturday Night Live and the ESPYs
In 2015, Drake released two hugely successful mixtapes, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late and What A Time To Be Alive.
That same year, Simon Harris was accidentally referred to as the Minister of State, Office of Pubic Works by the state broadcaster
:(
2016 was a big year for both men.
Drake utterly dominated the year with his album Views and his ubiquitous single One Dance, which was the most streamed song in the world in 2017.
Meanwhile, Simon Harris was appointed Minister for Health at the ripe old age of 29.
We think we know who had more fun, though
